Artist's Statement
"Trees and Roots" was inspired by a search for my South African roots and the environment of trees and roots which surrounded me in my new home in Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal.
Exploring the internal structure of the tree, the childhood fantasy of creeping inside and being protected and hidden, the "creature concealing" knobbles, bark and tree rings.
