Artist's Statement
"Trees and Roots" was inspired by a search for my South African roots and the environment of trees and roots which surrounded me in my new home in Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal.
A play on the positive and negative aspects of environmental space by concentrating on the shape and form of trees. The gaps between the tree forms and the surrounding space invite the spectator to explore, step in and alter their relationship.
